n a northern city a city of two tales

You can feel the history seeping through the walls

Pouring down the granite blocks

The balustrade and chimney tops

A menu from every corner of the globe (planet)

Prada, Gucci and Gordon Bennet

Buildings dripping with history and charm

The throng of tourists greasing the palm

Might be the birthplace of Harry Potter

But there’s things you can’t see

Or don’t wanna

There’s a man in the doorway with the world at his feet

He’s got it in a plastic bag it’s all he can keep

A life wrecked by beer and brown powder

He’s 32 but looks so much older

Asks for some change to buy a cup of tea

There but by the grace of god goes you and goes me.

The woman asleep slumped in a passageway

People walk past don’t give her the time of day

Carrier bags filled with wishes and dreams

We cannot hear the shouts and the screams

Cos there’s an under current creeping through

The 3rd class citizens the forgotten few

Might be the birthplace of Harry Potter
